PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE…OR IS IT?
The white iris is a symbol of PATIENCE.
Remember when I talked about the fact that words have energetic charges that we create,
based on society’s defintitons or our own past experience?
WHAT DOES PATIENCE MEAN TO YOU?
For me, it is, as the expression says, a virtue.
It feels warm and positive. However, when I looked up the definition,
I was surprised to see a definition that made me feel very negative. It said:
“The ability to suffer without complaining or becoming annoyed.”
Wow.
So, all this time, when we were taught that patience is a virue,
has that been yet another toxic program, telling us we should put
others ahead of ourselves and suffer in silence while we live a life of people-pleasing?
Of course, I’m going to stick with the positive definition
– being able to stay calm during difficulties and wait them out without stress –
and now this word actually has another positve charge for me.
Now, the word patience, will also remind me that I have the ability
to consciously choose a positive perspective over a negative one.
Now, I set the intention that, every time I get the urge to people-please,
I will have the patience to take a step back and to choose to please myself instead!
ARE YOU A PEOPLE-PLEASER?
I used to think I wasn’t a people-pleaser.
For the most part, I wasn’t, but I realized that, in certain, triggering situations,
I would do it to try to prevent people from being upset with me.
People pleasing can be across-the-board, or situational.
What’s your relationship with people pleasing?
Have you ever done it?
Do you ever still do it?
If you answered yes to either of these questions,
think of a specific situation and write it down on you daily reflections sheet.
