Better Breathing = Better Living!

ORIGIN STORY


The Big Better and S.A.M. (Self Alignment Method) came about as a result of a fascination with better living that started as a child. At the age of 9, I developed a serious lung infection that, after nearly killing me, left me with damage to my lungs. I was informed that any form of exercise would cause me to have trouble breathing, that I would have problems breathing in cold weather (living in Canada, this was not ideal), and that I would have very frequent bouts with pneumonia-like flus.

Fortunately, after about 10 years, my lungs improved and those symptoms stopped. Unfortunately, the doctors didn’t inform me that years of sedentary living would leave me with terrible chronic fatigue and in sub-optimal health (a state in between wellness and disease). They also didn’t know that my weakened lungs had caused a problem in the way my ribcage grew (something that went undetected for decades). The result was that, even after the main symptoms subsided, I was not able to breathe right. The fact is, I had not breathed properly since before that childhood infection, but it’s almost impossible to know if you are breathing right when you don’t have a sense of what it supposed to feel like.

Fast forward 2 decades: I became a life coach, helping clients heal their childhood traumas and achieve miraculous transformations. It was only when I made the connection between my own childhood trauma and my physical health that I was able to correct the deformity in my ribcage and begin truly healing my lungs. I realized that it was it was immediately after 5 years of chronic abuse, that I got sick. It’s not uncommon that, when the body stops living in adrenalin-draining survival mode, a physical collapse can follow, especially when one is too young to process emotions.

Suddenly, for the first time, I was able to start exercising and feeling better, but the most incredible part, by far, was how amazing it felt to start beathing better. After decades of breathing wrong, breathing became only energizing, but an astonishing, multi-sensory experience. My breathing felt more than just free. It felt like, after years of, restrictive linear motion, it was now flowing, swirling and energizing me. I could not only feel it, I could see it in my mind’s eye. These insights formed the basis of S.A.M Breathwork.

My own breathing journey gave me a very unique insight and perspective, not only about proper breathing, but about. There is so much more to breathing than what people realize and even those who breathe ‘correctly’ can greatly improve their quality of life simply by becoming aware of their breath and engaging it in a efferent way.

S.A.M. is a 4-faceted method and the first building block is better breathing. Today, Karen is thrilled that her clients’ journeys now include S.A.M. Breathwork to help them achieve greater health and greater insights that set the stage for rest of their journey to better living.
